That’s not the way we do things around here

That's not the way we do things around here on yaelsworld.com

The world of social networks has accelerated our sense of connections, we are expecting for returns, looking for achievements from each handshake we may have.

That could be a good answer to define the way we are doing things, it could be the surest way to build a project, to choose your workplace, to buy a house …
But that may bring outdating too, as the “well-established” capabilities system shows us how to follow and what may be good for us, it reinforces our impersonal side.

Then you, have you ever asked yourself for real why are you doing all those things ?

What others do

As human beings, there are often common excuses for why we do things.
Because another one you know have done it and he/she find the way to do it with success : it’s popular, trendy or funny.
Because someone told you have to do it : you don’t have the choice but to do it (in your career, in your sport team…) or you don’t see another way to succeed.
Because you’ve chosen to do it by your own, you feel you have to do it (you’re motivated).

Please don’t underestimate how important this last reason is.

I know a growing number of people that have already forgotten why they are doing things and most of the answers are hesitant, confused and sometimes totally irrelevant.

Don’t try to take alternative reasons to pretend for success unless this reason is yours.

Don’t take anyone as an example and forget about anything

Because anyone can progress as you can.
Because you will struggle to accord your strategy to others.
Because if you learn and practice what you’ve learned for yourself you will never be distracted.

So if you’re looking for a better living, I have 3 advices for you.

1. You can live better : act, don’t tell.
Life is always full of doubts and fears, so step back, you will discover thousands of opportunities around you.
Decide when and where you will take action in advance : then just do it.
To act is to be yourself. So be yourself.

2. Change your behavior : be a realistic optimist.
Think about all those plenty things you know you “should” do : eat healthily, call your parents, save more money, exercise regularly, stop smoking, …
If those things are undone, it’s because of you, not because anyone else : as simple as it sounds your willpower is not enough.
Stay focused, face those things and start by fixing your goals one by one.

3. Your environment needs you to be you.
In the changing environment, people aren’t interested in clones.
Social utility become significant when you do something different, but the thing is that we always make sense of our experiences through others.

So to find a fresh new perspective, you don’t have to look very far : motivate yourself to get things done.

Remember, you don’t need to become a different person to become a more successful one : just do what is good for you.

Maybe it will bring a thrill, maybe not.

It is my hope that, after reading about those few things I’ve mentioned here below people do differently.

"Be a realistic optimist" – love it, Yael. So many people make targets and set out goals, but they don't make them in actionable and achievable steps.

And then they lose heart when they don't meet them, and give up. Make it realistic and you'll more often than not achieve them.

    Cheers! :)
